What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced 'ray-key') is an ancient, hands-on healing technique. The word Reiki literally means 'Universal Life Force Energy'. It is this energy that flows around and throughout all living beings.

This safe and natural healing therapy involves a simple, light touch technique applied through clothing. The healing energy is channelled through the practitioner's hands, which are placed in various positions on the body.

Receiving a Reiki treatment is a very nourishing and pleasant experience, bringing feelings of deep relaxation and inner peace. It can bring harmony and balance to mind, body and spirit, by working on different levels. It is completely safe; you simply cannot receive too much Reiki.

Reiki compliments conventional medicine and all forms of natural healing, and addresses both the cause and effect of illness. It accelerates the body's natural ability to heal itself, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies. The energy directs itself naturally to wherever it is needed most, and at the same time it gently releases energy blocks that can cause tension and illness. It benefits every kind of physical and emotional problem, revitalising and refreshing our mind, body and spirit.

A brief history of Reiki

Reiki is the Ancient Tibetan Art of Healing by touch. It was re-discovered in the late 19th Century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk and theologian. He was intent upon discovering how a person could be healed by touch. He studied the Tibetan sutras and found references to this ancient wisdom. However, he could not discover the key to this healing art. At the end of a twenty one day fast and meditation retreat on a sacred mountain, Mount Kurama, he discovered the way to transfer this healing energy, and Reiki was rediscovered.
