Iridology

Iridology is a non-invasive, safe diagnostic technique, and a valuable guide to our health. It's the science of studying and analyzing signs in the iris of the eye. By this method the trained practitioner can assess the strengths and weaknesses in their patient's body. In this way, a very accurate picture is created of a person's constitution, their current health and their health potential.

We have heard the expression that our eyes are like "windows of the soul". Our eyes are now believed to act like mirrors, recording the condition of the many organs and tissues throughout our body. They are one of the most intricate structures to be found in nature.

Where did Iridology come from?

The earliest documentation dates back to the early 1800’s, and to a Hungarian physician, called Ignatz von Pecaely. He had a fascinating childhood experience, when he saw strange markings in the iris of an injured owl. It happened because he was attempting to release a trapped Owl, and the bird broke it's leg. He observed a dark mark in the Owl's iris. He noticed that this mark gradually turned white as the leg healed. Later in life, when he was a qualified physician he remembered this experience, and started observing his patients' eyes, carefully documenting all his observations.

In the 1950's, Dr. Bernard Jensen, a prominent and influential iridologist from America, travelled and taught iridology all over the world. He developed one of the most comprehensive charts showing the location of the organs as they reflect in the iris of the eye, and this is still in use today.

How can it help?

The iris of the eye could be called the fingerprint of the body, as it reveals each individual’s genetic make-up. The eye has thousands of nerve endings which are connected to the brain via the hypothalamus. This gives the iridologist readouts on conditions in all our organs and systems of the body.

Iridology is especially valuable in the treatment of chronic disease. A trained practitioner uses iridology to gain an insight into the whole person, before looking for the cause behind the problem. Iridology can reveal inherent strengths and weaknesses, the location of toxins in the body, inflammation, and poor waste clearance. Changes appear in the iris before any physical symptom develops, and therefore preventive action may be taken to improve our health, and avoid those diseases which might otherwise follow. By finding the root cause of disorders, a qualified Iridologist can suggest the most effective forms of therapy available, that will achieve the best results for you.

Members of The Guild of Naturopathic Iridology are qualified not only in Iridology, but also in at least one other therapeutic science e.g. herbal medicine, homoeopathy, orthodox medicine, nutrition, naturopathy.
