Acupuncture

with June Parker (DipAc, MBAcC)

I trained at the Northern College of Acupuncture, have very wide experience and have been treating clients for several years. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council, which maintains high standards of practice, ethics and education, to ensure the health and safety of the general public receiving acupuncture from its members. It lays down stringent standards of hygiene, and requires the use at all times of sterile, disposable needles.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture focuses on improving the overall well-being of a person, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms, aiming to recover the equilibrium between the physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of an individual.

Acupuncture originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. It is the traditional Chinese healing art of inserting fine hair-like needles into the body to relieve pain and cure disease. Strategic placement of the needles is intended to restore the body's natural balance, by releasing energy blocks, increasing the flow of vital energies and enhancing the function of the organs.

I use acupuncture to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. These might be common ailments such as, headaches, migraines, digestive complaints, arthritis and other joint problems, back, neck and shoulder pain, insomnia, anxiety and stress.

Acupuncture helps to maintain calm before stressful events such as exams, flying or hospital visits. I have found that acupuncture is particularly effective in conditions such as IBS, where emotional and physical symptoms co-exist. It is also good for smoking cessation.

Women's health issues that I treat include premenstrual symptoms, heavy or painful periods, irregular cycles, fertility problems (including support during IVF treatment), care during pregnancy, menopausal problems and support for health in later life.

Walkers, fell runners and cyclists frequently come for treatment of injuries and recurrent problems. These might include pain and stiffness in the knees, ankles, calves, hamstrings, back, neck and shoulders. Acupuncture is also excellent for preventing injury, bringing improved movement and suppleness, lubrication of joints and circulation to the muscles.
