I offer a holistic approach to your health and happiness. Whether you are suffering from a physical illness - from cardiovascular problems or cancer, to migraine or gall stones - or struggling with emotional or mental issues, I can help.

My wide training and experience in holistic therapies means that I can tailor your treatment to suit you, cleansing and renewing your body from the inside out, to leave you feeling bright, energised and ready for anything!

I began my training in holistic medicine and complimentary therapies when I was 18, and have now been practising an ever increasing range of therapies for 10 years in the South Lakes. As well as treating my clients, I do some teaching and supervision at Kendal College, and have worked as a volunteer for Age Concern and The Gentle Approach to Cancer.

I trained at the Nutritional Healing Foundation at Salford University, and can offer you nutritional advice, to suit your particular lifestyle, and support your physical and mental wellbeing.

I combine the physical and the spiritual for a truly holistic solution. The consultation is a key part of the healing process. Our initial meeting might last for about one and a half hours. Different complementary therapies (such as massage) may also be recommended as part of the healing process.
I also use ayurvedic and Chinese systems of medicine, and I aim to treat the issue behind the symptoms, rather than the symptoms themselves.

Homeopathy

My homeopathic treatment takes the best from two different approaches. I first trained in homeopathy, including the use of herbal tinctures, flower essences and nutritional support, at the Lakeland College in Ambleside. I then extended that training at the Integrative College in Lancaster, learning how to re-examine homeopathic diagnosis in the light of the human energy system, including the chakras and the five elements. This approach opens up new and profound insights into a patient's condition, and allows treatment to work on a much deeper level, enabling a more effective and permanent cure.

Clinical Aromatherapy

My first training in aromatherapy, at Kendal College, was in the variety usually offered by beauty salons and day spas. When I realised that I wanted to work in holistic therapy, rather than beauty, I moved into clinical aromatherapy, training at the Sandra Day School of Health Studies in Rochdale, and at Christie's Hospital in Manchester, treating cancer patients, and voluteering with The Gentle Approach to Cancer Association.

Clinical aromatherapy is a much more in-depth treatment, offered by only a handful of practitioners in the South Lakes. It involves a 30 to 40 minute consultaion about your life history, sources of stress and health problems, after which I choose from 50 essential oils, which can be combined for your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

Swedish Massage

This is a vigorous and deep massage, which stimulates the lymphatic system, and tones the muscles. Using aromatherapy oils, it can help relaxation and bring relief from stress, reduce muscular tension and speed up the elimination of toxins from your body. It is especially good after exercising, as it improves circulation and brings about increased body awareness.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a specialised deep pressure massage, usually of the feet, where all the internal organs and body structures are mirrored. It may help to de-stress you, and to give you a feeling of well-being, to bring equilibrium to your major body systems, and to improve your circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Indian Head Massage

As the name suggests, this massage originated in India, where it is practised to keep the head and hair in good health. By helping to relax the thin layer of muscle covering the head, it improves blood flow and nourishes the hair follicles. It can also alleviate anxiety and stress. This massage has been extended to include deep and relaxing massage to the shoulders, neck and upper back.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot stone therapy combines a traditional, deep massage with the use of smooth, heated basalt stones, which act like an extension of the therapist's hands. By arranging hot stones on cloth along your body's energy centres, heat penetrates into the muscles, reduces pain and discomfort, and boosts the healing process. After applying oil to the skin, the therapist then glides the stones across your body’s meridian lines, and harmonizes, restores and rejuvenates your body at its deepest level.

Baby, Child and Pregnancy Massage

Touch is considered to be an essential requirement for healthy development in our early life. Research has shown that babies who have been massaged by their mothers have increased weight gain, increased nerve and brain cell development, and better hormonal functioning and cell activity.

Pregnancy massage helps with common problems during pregnancy, keeps the mother calm, and has a positive effect during labour. It keeps the mother's muscles supple and strong, and helps prevent stretching of the pelvic ligaments. An unborn baby loves this massage.

I also teach new mothers how to massage their babies and children, practise basic aromatherapy, and use homeopathy for first aid in the home.

I have recently trained as a doula with eminent obstetrician Michel Odent. A doula is an experienced woman who offers emotional and practical support to a woman (or couple) before, during and after chidbirth. We believe in 'mothering the meother', enabling her to feel satisfied and empowered during pregnancy, birth and as a new mother. Amongst other benefits, doulas have been shown to reduce labour times, decrease the need for medication during delivery, and to increase success in breastfeeding.
