Sports and Holistic Therapies

with Genna Morrow (MHFST, MICHT (Kendal College) Level 3 Dip Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Swedish Massage & Advanced Techniques. Sports Therapy Level 3 Dip) Member of the International Federation of Health, Exercise and Sports Therapists.

I have attended courses in facials, muscle testing and food intolerances, spinal diagnosis and Tui na massage. I am now attending a Chinese Body Balancing course and a Football Association Injuries Management course.

Who am I?

I am a keen outdoor enthusiast and a qualified sports therapist. I love the mountains, fixing people, and achieving great results!
At present I work part-time as an outdoor care worker for 'Wilderness Experiences', and at Staveley Natural Health Centre.

My Dreams: To combine sports therapy with outdoor holidays, so people can actually come home with more energy than they went away with!

Sports Therapy. Who needs it?

Anyone who feels physically uncomfortable, with anything from an aching jaw to recovery from a major injury. e.g. sore back, repetitive strain problems.
Athletes who want to train and compete injury free. Often small imbalances can be released to prevent an injury from occurring.
I offer maintenance massage, which is important for everyone, especially for anyone with existing conditions such as scoliosis and fibromyalgia. Many symptoms can be alleviated.

What do I mean by Sports Therapy?

I use a variety of techniques from muscle testing as a diagnostic tool, to aromatherapy, as essential oils have many healing properties. I combine my knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the musculature, to get to the underlying cause of your problem, and to allow your body to return to balance. I use all natural products i.e. no synthetic oils, or creams with nasty ingredients.

I will work with you as an individual, and together we will create a number of goals that you want to achieve during treatment. You can then clearly see the results and measure your progress. Aims of treatment can be anything from a pain free back to lowering stress levels. I do not usually book by treatment, rather you turn up, and together we look at what you need. I try to pin point the cause of a person's discomfort or weakness, and then use the most effective techniques from my tool kit.

If you are someone that sees sports massage as a deep remedial massage, you may not get what you expect!
I use a variety of pressures from deep to the lightest touch. I am constantly attending courses to learn various eastern medicine techniques and western injuries management (through the Football Association).

So what will you get?

An initial consultation, when we will go through your medical history, present symptoms and future aims, plus a posture analysis. Then its your turn to relax and hop onto the couch.

I do not believe in causing pain through too deep a massage, as this can make the muscles go into spasm and that hinders the treatment. That is not to say that the massage will always be beautifully relaxing either. It depends on the best way to release individual muscle tension.

The body work I will use is based around muscle testing for strength, a joints range of movement and mobilisation of soft tissue, to create a more balanced body.
